This fabulous lakeside community was established in 1947 by Lloyd and Eleanor King. In 1958 Bow Mar was incorporated as a town under the laws of the State of Colorado. It is governed by an elected mayor and a six member Board of Trustees.

Membership in Bow Mar Owners, Inc. (BMOI) is limited to those who own property or reside in the town of Bow Mar or are admitted as special members. Membership is optional: those residents who choose to pay an initiation fee and annual dues to join BMOI enjoy access to the Bow Mar beach, tennis facilities, open space and special entertainment.

The beach area is the site of many of the social events of Bow Mar. Bowles Lake offers a spectacular setting for sailing regattas, swimming, picnics, holiday festivities such as the Father's day Brunch and the 4th of July celebration as well as an annual visit from Santa at the Beach. Sunset concerts during the summer are a wonderful social event for the neighborhood. The lake is stocked for fishing and the marina offers boat storage. Bow Mar residents and members have the use of eight tennis courts. Summer lessons are available and a variety of competitions are scheduled annually for all levels.
